Cedar Valley School District (CVSD) is committed to maintaining safe, orderly, and respectful school campuses for all students and staff. These guidelines establish consistent standards and procedures for suspension and expulsion to protect the learning environment and ensure fair treatment of all students.
These guidelines apply to ALL CVSD campuses, school-sponsored activities, district communication platforms, and any district-operated game.
Definitions
Suspension: Temporary removal of a student from one or more school campuses, school activities, or district-operated environments for a defined period of time.
Short-Term Suspension: Removal for up to three (3) school days or equivalent district time period.
Long-Term Suspension: Removal for four (4) to fourteen (14) school days or equivalent district time period.
Expulsion: Removal from all CVSD campuses and district environments for fifteen (15) days or more, or permanent removal as determined by District Leadership.
Students may be subject to suspension or expulsion for committing severe actions or when it is warranted by the Discipline Matrix. Administrators and school staff should refer to the High School or Middle School Discipline Matrix for student behavioral issues, prior to Suspension or Expulsion.
Teachers and campus staff may issue warnings, remove students from classrooms temporarily, and refer students to administration. Campus Administration can conduct investigations, issue suspensions and disciplinary actions, and recommend expulsion. District Leadership approves and issues expulsions, reviews appeals, and makes the final disciplinary determinations.
Students may submit an appeal to District Leadership by submitting an appeal in the CVSD Discord Server. All appeal decisions made by District Leadership are final!
Students returning from suspension are expected to continue to follow all district and campus regulations, demonstrate respectful behavior toward staff and students, and maintain appropriate conduct on all campuses and district environments. Failure to meet expectations will result in additional disciplinary action, according to the Discipline Matrix, when appropriate.
School Leadership is expected to follow these guidelines consistently and professionally. Discipline should support campus safety, student accountability, and a positive educational environment.
